commissioned by Herne Hill Music Festival

Listen to the River is inspired by the children’s story The King of the Golden River, written by John Ruskin. It was commissioned in 2019 by Herne Hill Music Festival, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Ruskin's birth, and premiered by Year 5 of St Saviour’s Primary School. The group roles are Effra (the local river), and three sets of people who work, relax, and play by the water: The Urbans, The Rurals, and The Children. Who will learn the wisdom of treating the river in the best way for everyone?
